Caroline Knapp

Caroline is the blogger behind House of Harper, a one stop destination for living with style - from interior design to travel, parenthood to fashion. After working as a buyer in the fashion industry for 8 years for major companies like Neiman Marcus and Gilt Groupe, Caroline decided not to go back to her corporate career after having their first son and set her sights on pouring her passions into HOUSE of HARPER full-time. Caroline's southern sensibilities shine through in the easy ways she entertains at home, dresses up for a date night and cherishes all the moments in between.

Originally from Corsicana (birth place of Netflix documentary, Cheer!) Caroline currently lives in Houston, Texas (after making stops in NYC and Dallas) with her husband and three children - Knox (6), Andrew (4) and Amelia who was born in March 2020. We wanted to get to know more about Caroline, so we asked her to answer a few questions!

What is your favorite activity to do with your kids?
Houston has so many amazing activities to offer familes. We love spending Saturdays exploring the Houston zoo or one of the many museums, The Children's Museum is #1 in the country and never gets old! The boys also love the Museum of Natural Science for the dinosaur exhibit and 4-D documentaries.

What advice would you give to working moms?
Give yourself some Grace. It is easy to think everyone else is doing it all so gracefully with social media, but the laundry and the perfect house doesn't matter as much as just spending quality time with your kids. Let the dishes pile up after dinner and enjoy a game on the floor, those are the moments you will all remember as the years pass by.

What is one thing that must always remain in your routine to keep your sanity when life gets hectic as a working mom?
Luckily, our kids are good sleepers and maintain an early bedtime. This is something my husband and I have never buckled on as our quiet time after 7:30 is extremely important to us. I use this time after the kids go down to catch up on whatever is causing me to stress at the time (messy house, overflowing inbox) or simply take a bath and binge a show with my husband. It varies every night depending on our needs, but the adult time is always essential, however we choose to spend it.

What are two things you love about Smockingbird Kids?
I love the personalization. What southerner doesn't appreciate a good monogram!? Plus the affordable price point that helps make it attainable is incredible. "
